Christmas Schedule: The last training before Christmas is on Monday, December 17th. After the training, we will go for a cup of Glühwein to the Christmas Market on Claraplatz. The first training in the new year is on Monday, January 7th, 2019.
Goju-ryu (剛柔流) is a traditional Okinawan style of karate founded by Chōjun Miyagi (1888–1953). The term Goju-ryu actually means “hard-soft style”, which refers to the closed hand techniques (hard) and open hand techniques and circular movements (soft) that comprise this martial art. Goju-ryu incorporates both circular and linear movements, combining hard striking attacks such as kicks and close hand punches with softer open hand circular techniques for attacking, blocking, and controlling the opponent, including locks, grappling, takedowns, and throws. Major emphasis is given to breathing correctly in all of the katas but particularly in the Sanchin and Tensho kata.
Our trainings take place every Monday from 18:00 to 20:00 in the dojo of the Aikidoclub Kleinbasel, Sperrstrasse 44, 4057 Basel. Please ring the doorbell (marked “Aikido”), or call +41788811208 (Jozef). If there is a bank holiday of Monday, check the News section or our Facebook page for information.
Jozef Chocholacek, 3rd dan (black belt grade) Goju-ryu karate. Started with karate in 1989 in Zvolen, Slovakia, got his 1st to 3rd dan in Brno, Czech republic, where he also worked as a trainer in the Taro kan karate team, and as Secretary general of the Czech Goju-ryu Karate Federation. Moved to Switzerland in 2012, founded the Koshinkan Basel in 2017 with two other karate enthusiasts.
Koshinkan means in Japanese the House of Old and New, i.e. the place, where Old and New meets. And that is exactly what we want to be: a place where the Old, traditional Okinawan karate, meets the New - a modern training approach based on physiology, biomechanics, and HAPV-theory.
We are a new club, established by members of the Basel Goju-ryu Meetup after 9 months of regular trainings. We are open for new members from 14 years* of age, both beginners and experienced karate practitioners are welcome. Contact us or just come by for a free probe training.
* The limit is not absolutelly strict, but we are not yet ready to accept children. Teaching children requires different training methods, and it would be virtually impossible to combine methods for children with methods for adults. The result would be dissatisfaction for all.
